RPM: Millie

Tokyo born, London-based DJ Millie has been bubbling up, making appearances at parties across the capital in recent months. A music lover at heart became a purveyor of the feel-good genres, ranging from disco to boogie, soul to funk, giving a heavy nod to the roots of dance music culture.

She has appeared recently at Secretsundaze, ReviveHer, Disco Disco and has just started her first residency on Balamii radio.

DIGGR: You’ve just been dumped, what’s on the turntable?

MILLIE: “Godley & Creme – ‘Cry'”

D: Number 1 Guilty Pleasure record?

M: “Always anything by Mariah Carey – She’s my queen, i dunno if i would even count her as a guilty pleasure to be honest…”

D: Where is your digging Mecca (city / country) and why?

M: “Tokyo (Japan, It’s where I am from, Japanese people go deep into geeking out, which is always a plus to find anything good!.”

D: What are your first memories of collecting records?

M: ” I was always really into music, but my boyfriend in my early twenties had a massive record collection so i never considered buying records, i always thought his records are mine too!? So when we broke up at 26, i started getting into buying my own.”

D: What is it about vinyl that makes you dig it?

M: ” That you have a story / memory behind every record you own. I love jamming out with friends and going through stories behind the record you put on.”
