Global Vinyl Community

RPM: Eileen Pegg

Eileen is a Nottingham based collector and selector, copywriter & journalist originally hailing from the North East.

“I’ve been into dance music for as long as I can remember. As soon as I went to University I got a job at my local nightclub and sold paper tickets for just about every event in the city, while fine-tuning my taste at familiar destinations like Berlin, Ibiza and festivals like Gottwood, closer to home.”

“For more than a decade now I’ve been collecting records and writing about tunes. Over the last year I’ve taken the plunge and learned how to mix my collection together – and I’m loving every minute of it.”

“Thank you to Nottingham’s music community who have accepted this ‘pivot’ with open arms – it’s been a pleasure to link with brands like Where Wax, Revinyl Sessions, Wot You Sayin?, Big Sexy, Pushkins Prefers, Swing Dash, Park 90 and more since starting this journey”

Pick of the Month: Ron Obvious – Mindful Vision [DMT07]

“It was released a few years ago, but I spun this track for the first time the other weekend (when I played my biggest sound system yet). It went down an absolute treat and so many people asked me for an ID afterwards”

Name one institution that changed your life musically and why?

“Soul Capsule – Lady Science from Discogs. Such a timeless, stunning track with a melody that never fails to tug on the heart strings.

When I was first getting into vinyl, I went back to my hometown where Moodymann was playing and started chewing his ear off about the wax I’d just purchased – he told me to go and get it to play but sadly, I’d left it in Notts…”

Number one guilty pleasure record?

“Both of these are more of a classic curveball than a guilty pleasure, but I always make sure the dub of Bodyrox – Yeah Yeah is in the bag. It made such an impression on me when I was a teenager and Luciana

is such a force! Years later it’s still a tune, so it’s nice to revisit it when the time is right 🙂

Also, High Contrast – If We Ever. Such an emotional track and the vocals are insane. “

Your birthday track…

“Now, it will be anything from

Loco Dice – 7 Dunham Place album.

I got it as a gift for my 30th from some absolute heroes who know my taste exactly, and since then I’ve used at least one track in pretty much every set.”

Name one person who knows your record collection as well as you do…

“My partner Allan (Big Sexy) or his musical partner, Ben Wood (More Amor) as they have both have gifted me some gems. Allan and I have so many duplicates, mostly minimal stuff. Also Dec, owner of record shop Where Wax – we’re both the product of Ibiza summers in the 2010s and the tunes that came with it.”
